You have hearded about the Wawrukannala Temple . It is famous shrine , located in our area. This temple is located about 4 km from Dickwella town. Many local and foreign devotees come to worship this place.  🙏🙏🙏🙏 







 There is a large statue of Lord Buddha in this temple. Which is in the seated position. This is about 160 ft hight. It is said to be Sri Lanka's biggest Buddha statue in the seated position and  dates come back to king Rajadhi's of reign.

                            It is made in such a way that one can climb up the stairs behind the statue. Most of the time, when we go to Wawrukannala this goes up. When go up, the surroundings looks beautiful. If you come too, be sure to go up.    

  

                                             

Hell is depicted in here. It is depicted with the help of statues and colourful paintings. This is made in the form of a tunnel. Yamaraju ,Yamapallan and the erganisms in hell are depicted here.                    

  

                                                                                                                                                                                                                     The punishments to be meted out are shown here.  It sends a message to people to avoid mistakes and must spend a good life.  So, I think , this is a special and everyone should see this. 

         


                 

              

There is also a large shrine adorned with paintings and statues.  There are various stages in life of Lord Buddha , are depicted this.  

         


                         

The temple has a museum which consists of a large clock. This clock is unique in that it mechanism is protected inside a glass cubicle.  The clock works even up to this day. 


Also , this temple has an Adiya Well. It is a rare occurrence. There is a little big elephant here.  Most of the time when we go to Wawrukannala ,we go to see it.  You have seen , the Damsathara TV channel.  This temple is its center. Also large perahara festival is held annually, at this temple. 


 Wawrukannala is a special shrine and there are a lot of things to look out for.  So, you can come and see these things.
