Adam's Peak

 Adam's Peak

Adam's peak is the sacred foot on the top of samanala mountain and the shrine built around it. God Sumana Saman is the lorder of this land. Ther is a left siripa mark of the Buddha. Samanala mountain is located in the central hills of the Rathnapura District of the Sabaragamuwa province. It is about 2243 meters high. Adam's peak is a place of worship for Buddhists.
The area around Mount Sri Pada is surrounded by large ridges. It is home to a lot of species of animals. Climbing the Sri Pada mountain is a difficult task. It takes thousands of steps and takes several hours. Piligrimage to Sri Pada begins on Uduwap Poya Day everyear. It ends on Vesak Poya Day.

In other months , it is difficult to climb Sri Pada. During these months , Mount Sri Pada receives heavy rainfall and thick fog. There are traditional practices associated with Sripa Karuna. The first pilgrim to ascend the Dri Pada is known as the "kodukara". Before , climbing in Siripa , should bathe in a "Sitha Gangula". While climbing the mountain , the saints sing the poems of the " Thun Sarana" .

After climbing to the top of the hill , the bell is ringed according to the number of times one has visited Sri Padasthana. Worshiping , Sri Pada at  night is also a wonderful experience. At night , the road is illuminated by light bulbs. The intention of the Sri Pada pilgrims is to climb to the top of the mountain before sunrise . Moreover, this is called " Era Sewaya " and watching the sunrise on the top of the hill is an unforgettable experience.

This is the Siripa pilgrimage season. We also , worship Siripa with all our heart.
God bless you!
